Hazard
The glass cooktop surface elements can turn on by themselves, posing burn and fire hazards.
On August 28, 2019, Whirlpool Corporation and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) jointly announced a recall of approximately 29,100 glass cooktops with touch controls sold under the Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and JennAir brands. The affected cooktops were manufactured from December 2016 through July 2019.
Whirlpool received 133 reports of incidents involving cooktop surface elements turning on by themselves, resulting in 14 reports of heat damage to nearby items, four reports of items catching fire (including one report of property damage), and two minor burn injuries.
The recalled cooktops were sold at Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Best Buy, and other home improvement and appliance stores, and online, from March 2017 through August 2019 for between $1,150 and $2,500.
Consumers should immediately stop using the affected cooktop and contact Whirlpool for a free replacement installation. The full list of affected JennAir model numbers is published on the official CPSC recall notice.
