How to Use and Care for JennAir Magnetic Rapid Induction Cooktop 1

JennAir induction cooktops with Magnetic Rapid Induction technology offer exceptional speed and precision. Learn proper use, compatible cookware, and maintenance tips.

How Magnetic Rapid Induction Works

JennAir’s Magnetic Rapid Induction technology generates a powerful magnetic field beneath the ceramic glass surface. When compatible cookware is placed on the cooking zone, the magnetic field induces electrical currents in the base of the pan, generating heat directly in the cookware. The cooktop surface itself does not get hot — it only warms from residual heat transferred back from the pan. This results in faster heating, more precise temperature control, and a cooler kitchen environment compared to gas or traditional electric cooktops.

Compatible Cookware

Induction only works with cookware that has a ferromagnetic base. To test your existing cookware:

  • Hold a refrigerator magnet to the bottom of the pan. If the magnet sticks firmly, the pan is compatible.
  • Compatible materials: cast iron, carbon steel, enameled cast iron, most stainless steel (those with a magnetic-grade stainless base layer)
  • Not compatible: pure aluminum, copper, glass, ceramic, and some stainless steel with a high nickel content
  • Cookware with a flat, smooth bottom works best. Warped pans will not make consistent contact with the sensor and may not be detected by the cooktop.
  • The pan base diameter should be at least four inches for the cooktop to detect it. Small cookware may not activate the cooking zone.

Daily Use Tips

  • Centering the pan — place cookware in the center of the marked cooking zone for optimal energy transfer and even heating.
  • Power boost — most JennAir induction cooktops include a boost function for rapid boiling. Use it to bring water to a boil quickly, then reduce the power to your desired cooking level.
  • Pan detection — if you remove the pan from the cooking zone, the induction element shuts off automatically. Replacing the pan restarts it at the previous power setting on most models.
  • Noise — a slight humming, buzzing, or clicking sound during induction cooking is normal and caused by the magnetic field interacting with the cookware. Heavier, flat-bottomed pans produce less noise.

Cleaning the Ceramic Glass Surface

  1. Allow the cooktop to cool. Because the surface only gets warm from residual pan heat, it cools much faster than a radiant electric cooktop.
  2. Apply a ceramic cooktop cleaner (a cream-style cleaner made for glass cooktops) to the surface.
  3. Use a soft cloth or the pad included with the cleaner. Rub in a circular motion.
  4. For stubborn residue, use a cooktop scraper held at a 30-degree angle to lift debris, then clean with the cream cleaner.
  5. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and buff dry.

Preventing Damage

  • Do not slide cookware across the glass — lift and place to prevent scratches
  • Clean sugar spills immediately if they occur while the surface is still warm, as melted sugar can bond permanently to the glass
  • Do not use the cooktop surface as a cutting board or work surface
  • Avoid placing aluminum foil or aluminum pans on active zones — aluminum can leave permanent marks on the glass if heated
